The Metropolitan Opera opened with a bang last night, as the bombshell Russian soprano Anna Netrebko took on Verdi’s epic tragedy “Anna Bolena.” There to take it all in were the Opera’s doyenne Mercedes Bass, Marie-Josee Kravis and Nancy Kissinger, as well as newer opera fans like Leelee Sobieski (in Mary Karantzou) and Crystal Renn, in a gold sequinned Zac Posen. The designer was on her arm, and didn’t let a little entertainment prevent him from working: He bent over to examine the massive train of Jean Shafiroff’s Oscar de la Renta magenta meringue. “The horse hair is perfectly done,” he announced before Shafiroff professed her love of Renn’s gown. As for the sequins, “Oh, they just come off,” Posen laughed. “I said it would be like breadcrumbs through the theater,” joked Renn. See more of the chic attendees below.
